Main Contractor Selected

Construction company U. Lipsanen Oy has been selected as the main contractor if the new battery factory of European Batteries Oy. The gross area of the factory totals 8,647 square meters and the volume 76,300 cubic meters. The client is the Keski-Savo’s Industrial Village Oy. Above ground construction works will start on Wednesday, January 7, and will be completed at the end of August 2009.
Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy, who participates in the project, estimates the value of the construction contract to be 6 mEUR. When included the mechanical, electrical and ground works the project totals 10 mEUR.
The factory will start the production of high capacity, reloadable lithium-ion batteries during next fall. The capacity of the batteries in production makes them suitable for example electric vehicles or as efficient energy storages for even larger applications.
